Introduction to Buddhism and Buddha Path practice

New class starting in September: This weekly class will focus on basic principles of Buddhism and introduce simple tools for reducing worry and stress, calming the mind, developing love, compassion, and joy. Each session will be a short practice from The Buddha Path, followed by informal dharma discussion. Everyone is welcome; no previous experience required. By donation.

Authorized dharma teacher Joseph Evans (Orgyen Shiwo Dorje) has been studying with Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche for 12 years, and has completed more than six months of retreat in the Dzogchen Shri Singha lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

AlejAndro Anastasio, authorized Dharma Teacher of the Buddha Path AlejAndro is an authorized dharma teacher who has studied Buddhism for the past 14 years under the direction of his root teacher, H.E. Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche. He has attended numerous week-long seasonal retreats with Khenpo Rinpoche and has attended the 2012, 2013, and 2016 Dzogchen Lineage One Month Internship and Drupchen where he received instructions and blessings to teach. AlejAndro’s dharma teachings are simple, deep and humorous, with a focus on application in one’s daily life. He is currently the director of the Boise Dharma Center, in Boise, Idaho.

Starting September 12th, we will meet at the Tibetan Community Center (135 West 2950 South) every Monday at 7 pm. For these sessions, we dive right into practicing The Buddha Path, so it is recommended to attend at least introductory class, first. To commemorate this auspicious day, our kind teacher, His Eminence Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche, will give two sacred live internet teachings regarding the Ten Powers of Buddha Shakyamuni.

The Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation is honored to invite all Sangha and friends to gather together on Friday, the 13th of May, and Saturday, the 14th of May, 2016 to watch and listen to these auspicious teachings. Rinpoche may also answer some of your questions if time allows.

Venerable Archarya Jigme Lama Sean D. Young, Padma Jigme Dorje, is an authorized Lama and Dharma Teacher in the Dzogchen Lineage of Buddhism. Sean has studied with his root teacher His Eminence Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche for over 15 years and has directly assisted Rinpoche with the first three editions of the Buddhist book, The Buddha Path. Jigme Lama has also graduated from five Dzogchen Lineage Internships along with many seasonal retreats beginning with the first US 10-day retreat led by Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche in 2000, near Fruitland, Utah. In 2014, Jigme Lama also received an advanced degree of Vajra Yoga Practitioner at the first Dzogchen Lineage Internship commencement ceremony at the Dzogchen Retreat Center USA. In the same year, Jigme Lama was authorized by Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche, along with eight other Lamas, as a Venerable Archarya Lama. The Lamas were selected through a dynamic process of divination, prayer, Rinpoche’s 10-year evaluation, and a majority vote of the 2014 Dzogchen Lineage Internship Sangha.

Jigme Lama’s teaching activities began with teaching introductory Buddhism courses in 2002. Since then, Sean has taught hundreds of students in public teaching events, university guest lectures, weekend workshops, seasonal Dzogchen Lineage retreats, and tutoring during Dzogchen Lineage Internships.

Jigme Lama aspires to embody the principle of inclusiveness, dedicating his life to practicing and teaching the Dharma and serving as President of the Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation, while being a loving husband and father, and maintaining a career as a creative professional. Jigme Lama is currently supporting the publication of future editions of the Buddha Path and other texts and aspires to fulfill his teacher’s aspirations to help establish a stable Dharma system to promulgate the Dzogchen lineage throughout the world and benefit all beings.

SLC Dzogchen Spring Retreat
‘Joyful Path, Joyful Result’
A weekend workshop with Venerable Archarya Jigme Lama Sean D. Young

The Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation and Dzogchen Shri Singha of Salt Lake City are honored to announce the fourth annual Dzogchen Urban Spring Retreat in Salt Lake City from Saturday March 12, through Sunday March 13, 2016. Students will observe a full-time weekend schedule of from 9 am to 5 pm under the instruction of Venerable Archarya Jigme Lama Sean D. Young. The retreat will be centrally located at Wasatch Retreat and Conference Center in the Episcopal Church Center of Utah near downtown Salt Lake City. An urban retreat setting allows for deeper immersion into the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism while allowing participants the convenience and comfort of lodging at their homes with families. The 2015 Dzogchen Urban Spring Retreat is designed to give students practical skills for coping with the stressors of modern life and for developing one’s innate love and compassion while bringing happiness to others. This year’s program is themed “Joyful Path, Joyful Result,” a simple and integrated approach towards integrating Buddhist principles into one’s daily activities surrounding work, family, and community.

Dear Sangha, here are some dharma activities going on in June:

H. E. Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche will offer two public webcast teachings at 8pm MST on Monday, June 1st and at 9am MST on Tuesday, June 2nd. To watch the broadcast live online: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/the-buddha-path. The title of the teachings is ‘The Twelve Great Stories in the Life of Buddha Shakyamuni‘. This is part of Saga Dawa Duchen, a celebration of Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana.

On June 2nd, at the Dzogchen Retreat Center, there will be a special gathering, offering ceremony, and teaching by Venerable Archarya Jigme Lama, Sean Young, under the guidance of His Eminence Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche. On this auspicious day (the 15th day of the 4th lunar month), the power of positive and negative intentions and actions increases one billion (1,000,000,000) times or more. Even if we are not able to be physically present, we can still participate through offering. Rejoicing and offering are wonderful ways to join in the merit of others’ virtuous activities. Prayers for Nepal

In response to the devastating earthquake that ravaged Nepal recently, this Sunday’s session will be devoted to helping those who are suffering from loss of loved ones and those who are without basic necessities like shelter, food and water. Material generosity is needed and so beneficial, but our beneficial prayers and practice make a difference, too. Especially, the similar combined power of group practice multiplies the merit of our good intentions.

This Sunday evening’s practice will focus on The Great Peace Prayer of Buddha and on reciting several healing and blessing mantras.

Where: The Yoga Center

When: Sunday May 3, 7:00-8:00 pm

Suggested donation: $5-15 or more. Donations for this practice will go to ‘Precious Loving Compassion for the People of Nepal’, a way to give focused relief, especially to those in remote areas. 

Geydak Rinpoche is there, bringing supplies to remote areas in Nepal that have been severely impacted by the earthquake and are inaccessible by roads. We are raising money to help in this desperate situation. Please compassionately contribute with your resources, love, and prayers!

The Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation is pleased to announce the One-Month 2015 Dzogchen Lineage Internship, an International Dzogchen Buddha Path Teacher Training Program conducted by His Eminence Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche.

This intensive program of Dharma study and practice will begin on Friday, July 3, 2015 concludes on Tuesday, August 4th, 2015. Extended retreats are available to pre-qualified Sangha.

Buddha Path meditation reduces worry and stress, promotes health, increases joy and happiness, creates positive conditions that benefit others, and leads to unsurpassable enlightenment.

The Buddha Path is a practice manual, written in English, compiled by Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche. The Buddha Path also refers to Dharma, the cause of both temporary and lasting happiness — renunciation, compassion, faith, love and wisdom.

Visiting Teacher Acharya Jigme Lama Sean D. Young

The Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation and Dzogchen Shri Singha of Salt Lake City are honored to announce the third annual Dzogchen Urban Spring Retreat in Salt Lake City from Saturday March 14, through Sunday March 15, 2015.

The retreat will be centrally located at Metcom Studios at 352 South 500 East near downtown Salt Lake City. An urban retreat setting allows for deeper immersion into the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism while allowing participants the convenience and comfort of lodging at their homes with families. A general public teaching will be also offered on Friday March 13, 2015 at 7:30 pm at The Yoga Center, at 4689 S. Holladay Blvd.

The 2015 Dzogchen Urban Spring Retreat is designed to give students practical skills for coping with the stressors of modern life and for developing one’s innate love and compassion while bringing happiness to others. This year’s program is themed “You Are The Path,” a simple and integrated approach towards integrating Buddhist principles into one’s daily activities surrounding work, family, and community.

Students will observe a full-time weekend schedule from 9 am to 5 pm under the instruction of Venerable Archarya Jigme Lama Sean D. Young. Jigme Lama is a Dharma Teacher of the Dzogchen Lineage and is authorized as a Lama by His Eminence Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche who is a 33rd generation Dzogchen Lineage Holder.

Space for the 2015 Dzogchen Urban Spring Retreat is limited and applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. ABOUT DZOGCHEN KHENPO CHOGA RINPOCHE

A vibrant and dynamic teacher, Khenpo Choga is a 33rd-generation lineage holder of the Buddhist wisdom lineage of Dzogchen. Rinpoche is a lama of Dzogchen Monastery and professor of the Dzogchen Shri Singha University. He has more than seven years of solitary cave meditation experience in the high Himalayas and embodies the qualities of a realized practitioner. He is a published author of numerous Tibetan and English books, including The Buddha Path, a practice book that encompasses all of Buddha’s teachings. The Buddha Path is now available in English and soon to be released in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian.

ABOUT JIGME LAMA SEAN D. YOUNG

Venerable Archarya Jigme Lama Sean D. Young, Padma Jigme Dorje, is an authorized Lama and Dharma Teacher in the Dzogchen Lineage of the Nyingma Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Sean has studied with his main teacher His Eminence Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche for over 15 years and has directly assisted Rinpoche with the first three editions of the Buddhist book, The Buddha Path. Jigme Lama Sean has also graduated from four Dzogchen Lineage Internship Programs along with many seasonal retreats beginning with the first US 10-day retreat led by Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche in 2000, near Fruitland, Utah. In 2014, Jigme Lama also received an advanced degree of Vajra Yoga Practitioner at the first Dzogchen Lineage Internship commencement ceremony at the Dzogchen Retreat Center USA. The Varja Yoga Practitioner degree is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree according to western academic standards.

Sean has also received teachings and guidance of teachers such as Lama Thupten Gyaltsen Dorje, Lama Dawa Rinpoche, and Khenpo Konchok Monlam Rinpoche. Following Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche’s guidance, Jigme Lama Sean began teaching introductory Buddhism courses in 2002. Since then, Sean has taught hundreds of students and is noted for his personal, accessible style while explaining Buddhist teachings in simple, everyday terms.

Sean embodies the principle of inclusiveness, dedicating his life to practicing and teaching the Dharma while being a loving and devoted husband and father, all while maintaining a career as a creative professional. Sean has over 17 years working in advertising as a copywriter, video editor, designer, and creative director working on a broad range of regional, national, and global clients.

Sean has also served on the Board of Directors for the Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation since 2005, and is currently serving as an officer.
